If you've been following The MOD’s Blog for some time now,
then you will probably know that I love socialising. Feeling the need to be the
entertainer of every event and having chronic FOMO*, I never miss a social
occasion. So come the end of the year I find myself a little tired, understandably
I would say. In January 2015 I decided to abstain from drinking alcohol for 1
month. That month I felt in the best shape of my life, physically and mentally.
I even wrote a blog post about how much I benefited from this simple lifestyle
change. Have read if you like.... Miscellaneous Monday : The woes and worth of “Dry January”
Now, in January 2016, I have decided to do it again but this
time for The Irish Heart Foundation who are the national charity fighting heart disease and stroke, funded 92 per cent by public donations. Heart disease is Ireland's number 1 killer with approximately 10,000 people dying each year from cardiovascular disease. Learn more HERE.
31 days, no alcohol. Seems pretty easy really, in theory. I've already had a challenge when my mother offered me a nice hot port to which I naturally accepted and then I remembered that I couldn't. I kindly declined. She actually felt a bit sorry for me but I could feel her pride too. I am nothing if not committed.
1) I promise to not drink any alcoholic beverage for the next 31 days.
I know that's not enough for you guys to hand over your hard earned dosh at a time of year when it's probably pretty limited. I want to make this more of a challenge for me and more entertaining for my blog followers.
2) I promise to commit a number of charitable and kind acts throughout the month.
I will report on my acts weekly and let you all know how easy or difficult it is to be a more charitable person. Seeing as I'll be sober, I have a feeling it's going to be a lot of designated driving.
3) I promise to learn a new skill and demonstrate it at the end of the month.
I haven't decided what this skill will be yet. Totally open to suggestions....? This will most likely be a cringe fest but the more money I raise the more likely I am to post a video of this in early February.
How to Donate
You can donate by going to my On The Dry profile and click donate. Please remember this is for a fantastic charity that you or someone you love may benefit from someday.
